Do 1 net damage.

End the run.

I have always loved the Android Universe created by Fantasy Flight Games. The deep, immersive world-building. The gallery of personalities. It's a world that entices me to get lost in.

While Fantasy Flight has a variety of products that take place in the Android Universe, nothing captures that dynamic balance of runner vs. megacorp quite like the Android: Netrunner CCG (may it rest in power).

At its most basic players choose to either play a runner or a megacorp. The runner tries to infiltrate the megacorp for precious information while the megacorp sets up its defenses to protect it's shady agendas.

One of the ways the megacorp protects its interest is with Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics or, as it is more commonly known, ICE.

One example of ICE is Envelope, created by the Jinteki Corporation and I intend to re-create it in Unreal 5.

The original plan was to drop a post as soon as I finish the Block-In. However, I need to jump to another project that is more time sensitive so I am posting a WIP that is about 60% of a Block-In.

The beginnings of ICE creation

When doing a Block-In I create a "proxy" for every element of the effect. I complete it to the point where there is no question on how it will be done. At this point I built out the primary sphere, the orbiting trails, the Hexagon layer, and the beginnings of some VDB atmosphere.

I went a little overboard on the material for the primary sphere because I wanted to play around with user defined material parameters a bit.

All the primary sphere's textures are currently random images I created in the past. However, when I generate the real textures I will use a Substance Designer workflow.

The Hexagons are the only texture currently generated with Designer. While a very simple image right now it is great being able to go in and quickly change scale and thickness as needed.

Told you it was pretty simple

Re-creating Netrunner ICE has been something I have really been wanting to do for awhile and it feels good to finally start the explorations. I hope to get back to this soon.
