Had some time to jump back into ZBrush and play around with POlypaint on my first sculpt.

A screenshot from the ZBrush program that shows a dark haired, dark eyed girl.
Using my first ever ZBrush Sculpt for my first ever foray into POlypaint.

Of course this also meant playing around with the materials. I used a standard skin material with a few tweaks. The eyes are the toy plastic material, also with a few tweaks.

A dark haired, dark eyed, digital sculpt of a girl looking into the camera. She seems sad but we dont know why.
I did not intend to make her look so sad but left it and am going to pretend I did it on purpose from here on out.

I decided to straight paint the eyes with polypaint which was probably a mistake. Dont think I am ever going to do that again. I might try laying down a texture next time around before actually sculpting a full-on eye.

Bad Hair Day

The hair is a mess, literally. It was kind of mishmash of stylistic and realistic so none of the materials really looked right. I ended up going with a modified Soft Plastic material and painted the dark color on top of a blue-ish white. Its interesting but not quite right.

A digital sculpt of a dark haired, brown eyed girl who looks like she is about to cry because whoever sculpted her did not want to take the time to give her a more natural stare.
Are you sad because of what I did to your hair?

As you can see I started playing around with rendering as well. Nothing to crazy. Just kept it to one light that I moved around to try and keep that specular reflection on the eye. In the future I need to pay closer attention to the differences when you render. I liked some of the redder areas in the preview but they disappeared a bit when rendering.

What do you think she is looking at?

I tried "painting" a different material on the lips but it was hard for me to control the rendered result vs the preview so I decided against it this time around. I will give it a shot on the next try.

She does not look as sad in this shot. Maybe, in the end, she has come to a quiet contentment in my polypaint skills.

Overall I was fairly happy with the results here. I look forward to getting into Substance painter at some point but its pretty fun just seeing what ZBrush can do out the box.
